Re: D3 & D300 AF sensor

I've had no such problems with Nikon's Service over the years. Two dropped lenses, VR died on 4-year old 70-200, 10.5 fell apart (while shooting!); D2x adjusted. Some under warranty, some not, some before I joined NPS; faster service afterward.

If you are a pro, you should join NPS, or Canon's version. It's not difficult, and you'll benefit in faster turn-arounds on repair work (and camera acquisition).

Sorry, no horror stories here (yet?!).

Ken

Nikon service

With the exception of being told that there was 'impact damage' on a couple of perfect cameras that had never had such happen, Nikon service has been ok...Nothing to write home about.
I do wish that these very expensive objects and the persons that purchase them, were accorded the same service and courtesy that Federal Express does for an average invoice of $30.

Re: D3 & D300 AF sensor

Sorry about the sidetracking.
The problem I have with this type of disscussion is that it usually gets boring compairing specifications when real world shooting results are all that actually matter.

I finally read the Article and he says very little about the AF Sensor and actually very little to get me excited about the cameras. Simply put: every single item on my wish list for the D3 was exceeded and they added some bonus features I had not even thought about. I don't know about you, but better equipment does make me a better Photographer. I have experienced a dramatic improvement with my indoor image quality output.

The most important AF sensors on the D3 are exactly were I need them. Although I now use the top center cross type sensor the most (I use the center one on my DX bodies), I have never needed to shoot outside the central array.
