D1X and monochrome

While I am awaiting receipt of my D1X I was wondering about using the monochrome mode. Yes, I know I can shoot it in color and then convert it later, but I am used to seeing and shooting in black and white. So I was wondering if I do not have to worry about washed out skies, etc, because a CCD shoud not have the over sensitivity to blue light that B&W film does. So, what will happen if I put a red filter on the camera in monochrome mode. Will it darken the sky or just act as a ND filter. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
