Re: Sensor cleaners?

I use Visible Dust system and their arctic butterfly when in the field. Have no complaints.

Re: Sensor cleaners?

As said over and over again, Visible dust. I have 11 D2's and I clean them at least once a weak, and have done for years with no complaints.

11 D2's. You are more camera poor than I am.

This may horrify most of you but I have begun to use my cotton T-shirt with my finger behind it to knock the dust bunnies off the sensor.

So far, after 3 times it has worked better than anything else that I have tried. With over a dozen Pro DSL cameras including two D2X bodies. I have taken over 2 million shots and tried every kind of sensor cleaner I could find, Most either pile up the dust or streak the Sensor. The worst cleaner I ever used was the free cleaning from Nikon in Torrance. They charged me $800 and claimed "impact damage". When I got it back the sensor was unclean and the camera no longer worked. So, I had to sent it to New York were "they did me right".

Unfortunetly, my two most used lenses are the Nikkor 18-200 AFS-VR and the 80-400 VR. They both pump dust into the camera. I would prefer to use my 70-200 and 20-400 both better sealed and internal zoom, but they do not have the range I need most of the time.

I can now lock the mirror and clean the sensor in less than one minute in the field if the magnified review shows a bad spot.

Re: Sensor cleaners?

I'm going to join in with the Visible Dust Arctic Butterfly. Been using it for about two years, and it's always gotten the job done quite well.

Re: Sensor cleaners?

Sensor brush, Eclipse and Pec Pads, with the cut-down spatula when necessary. It's not a big deal cleaning the sensors, but you do need to use some reasonable care. Using ur T-shirt is asking for it.

Hi Dennis,

Eclipse is nasty on 5Ds too because the outside surface is the Dichroic mirror, as shown in the 5D white paper. Others have ruined the surface using "harsh chemicals." (If you Google "Canon 5D eclipse" w/o the quotes, you will find a long story of woe in one of the links.) I believe other Canon cameras that feature the self cleaning mechanism are also susceptible to harsh chemicals.

I don't have any answers. Just providing a heads up.

Regards,
Kevin
