Re: SB-800 off camera

the su-800, is the way to go.

basically it performs all the functions needed to control the off camera strobes, and allows the photographer to move freely.

it is best used indoors however, since the IR, is somewhat unrliable outside.

Re: SB-800 off camera

I leave an SB-800 on the camera to control the remote SB-800's, then use exposure compensation on the unit on the camera to dial back the exposure it gives. That way you get the benefit of the controls on the camera mounted flash and can use it for fill. I usually have a reflector of some sort on the on camera flash so it's not too strong.

Re: SB-800 off camera

While this is not a wireless solution, you can string together more than one SC-17 cord to get father from the flash.

Re: SB-800 off camera

I will second Marc's comment about the SB800's being somewhat unreliable outside. I shot a cover photo for Inside Prep Baseball magazine, and foune that I had to position the lights closer to the camera to get them to fire. Once I did that, they worked great, and I didn't have to drag out the Travelights and the battery!

You might find the answers to some of your flash prayers on this video.

Also, if you can get a hold of this very excellent video you will probably be sold on the SB-800, SB-600 systems.
I watched it the other day and now I am price shopping, got to get some.
