Confused circle of confusion

Hi all, this is my first post (was a member of the old forum) so here goes. What is a reliable circle of confusion for a Nikon DX size sensor that will give good results in hyperfocal calculations at 8x10 & 11x14. I’ve looked at a few charts and calculators on the net and they all seem to have different results. I know that the COC is empirical is some ways but there must be some that will give accurate results in hyperfocal formulas. Also if someone knows of another way to calculate hyperfocals on the Nikon DX sensors without using COC I would be all ears. It seems that one needs hyperfocal numbers to get good DOF numbers but would love to hear of another way. It seems that using the DOF scale (on lens that have such) of non DX lenses on the Nikon DSLR would be inaccurate on the DX sensor cameras. Again please let me know if I’m wrong. Thanks for any wisdom that can be imparted on this.

Thanks

Richard

Read Thom Hogan's D2x book. He has a nice writeup on this subject starting at about page 330.
