D200 misbehaving

I noticed a few times at yesterdays wedding and again a few times during a studio shoot this morning that one of my D200's is acting odd.

Every now and again it will lock up and it says 'OFF' in the space on the top display window where it would normally show the shutter speed and aperture!?!

The rest of the display shows as it normally would and the batteries etc are all fine. I have to switch it off and back on again to clear the error.

I have checked the manual and it does not mention this error message.

Anyone else experienced this?

As I don't have an assistant with me at todays wedding I think I will use my other D200 just incase.

Re: D200 misbehaving

Are you using it with an MB-D200 (the battery grip)? I think I've read of someone else with a similar problem, and they traced it to the spring loaded contacts on the top of the grip hanging up.

Re: D200 misbehaving

A friend purchased three D200's from Japan shortly after their release. One of them would very intermittently lockup after taking a shot. The mirror would lock in the up position. Sometimes turning the power on and off would correct the issue, but often removing the battery was required. It was sent back for service and repaired.

Re: D200 misbehaving

I had something similar happen to me today on a wedding with the D200/MB-D200 grip combo. All of a sudden, my shot was almost black and I hadnt' changed settings. There was a triangular symbol in the top display (didn't really pay attention to it - just noticed the display looked different). I turned the camera off and back on and it went away. Only happened the once - but very disconcerting to say the least!

Re: D200 misbehaving

David,
Recently, I experienced weird problems with my D200, including some of the things others reported in response to your posting, also no response when attempting to shoot in portrait mode using the MB-D200. The problem: the MB-D200 had worked loose! Screwed it tight to the camera body and no more problems!! Check your connection...
Lou
