New Nikon D2X firmware update

I've been making posts about my D2X backfocussing ever since I did the first software update. It was around six months or so also. See my last post a couple of weeks ago Back focussing again!!

I've had my camera back from Nikon a week or so after they fixed the back focus issue and have since had a worse error occur with the focussing. It failed to focus on a shoot the other day altogether..not even a backfocussed shot or anything! When trying to depress the shutter button it simply wouldn't do a thing and I kept missing invaluable shots. Can't tell you how frustrated I am with the camera now. I took it in to Nikon UK again today to get this looked into. It seemed to be more of an electical fault as the battery started going down rapidly around the same time and the image display would only flicker on for a millisecond so I couldn't review images while I was working. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've not had that happen yet with a D2X (but it hasnt been "repaired" yet) but I have exerienced exactly what you describe with a D1X, again after coming back from repairs for back focussing.

Just like you say, no focussing at all, I couldnt even focuss in manual because the focussing ring was jammed (28-70 AF S 2.8).
I could hear like a buzzing sound when I depressed the shutter button, which sounded like the motor trying to drive the jammed lens which may explain your rapid battery drain.

Back to my D2X problem, I have now found a file where the camera just acted really wierd and everything locked up. The file in question shows really wierd exif data such as Max Aperture F1 and lens used= Unknown, despite the fact it was a 28-70AF S. Clearly, the elecronic communication between the lens and body had gone haywire, here.
This happened, not long before I began to experience the backfocussing issue.

I'm sending it in for repair today.

Joe, how long did nikon take to repair your camera?

Sorry-just seen your post! It took about 3-4 days for Nikon to repair my camera. Saying that I took it in about 3 times before the problem was rectified so I'd say in all nearly 3 weeks without my camera!
What's the news on your camera now-is it fixed?

Nikon Announced the firmware update for 3 cameras. D2X, D200 and D2HS. Anyone know where to locate the download?
