Capture NX Question

I've been trying NX with moderate success. It's definately faster and less buggy than Capture 4, but I've discovered an odd quirk that's an absolute deal breaker for me. When I send an image to Photoshop using the Open With command, NX renames the file TransferredImage.tif and strips out all of the IPTC info I've previously entered. When I look at the info inside NX, it's all still there. When I Save As a tif and reopen in Photoshop, all the info is preserved, which is fine, except it adds a step. I can't find anything in the Preferences to solve this.

I'm generally happy with the processing of Camera Raw, but every once in a while I'll prefer the conversion of Capture, in spite of the length of time it takes.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a solution I just haven't found?

Re: Capture NX Question

I don't have a solution

But, do file a bug report with Nikon. Even if there is a way around this problem, discarding metadata by default is not the right way to go.

Metadata issues are going to be more and more of a deal breaker for imaging applications, and it is especially nasty when one link in the chain discards some of the metadata along the way.

If you're so inclined, take a look at the Metadata Manifesto from the Stock Artists Alliance it's a good start on beginning a discussion on metadata related issues and the problems of developing a functional "metadata flow."
