D100 Grip Question

Looking to buy a used D100 vertical grip.
- Does the grip for this camera have the voice-recording note-taking feature?
- Can the camera with this grip operate with one battery in place only?
- Or does it require two batteries side by side in the compartment to complete a circuit?
- What did this grip come with when new?
- Does the grip have front and back control dials?

Re: D100 Grip Question

-yes voice noting
-yes works with one battery (but why would you want to do it)
-ditto
-a box if I remember corrctly (oh, and the AA battery adapter, thats right, never used it)
-yes both dials

imo, the grip is an essential D100 do-dad, makes the camera balanced with heavier lenses and voice annot. is handy if you need that sort ot thing.

I haven't used my D100 except for a test or two since getting a D2X but despite its limitations, its still a competent camera, you just have to have good raw working knowledge to get the most out of it. With the extra menus, grip and slightly larger viewfinder than the D70, its still a good option for someone starting in digital and getting a reasonabley priced kit used. Shot off a few frames last week and was amazed how quiet it is, I always liked that about it, but theres quite a diff. between it and the X bodies, D1 and D2. A real advantage for quiet situations and i do notice this difference with the D2 now. (makes me think of the 'ol FM2, FE, FA and MD-12 days-those were noisey!)

I plan to sell both camera and body together sometime, but there must be lots of used grips out there. I think they were $400 can. new. I,m sure you've ebayed them already.

cheers

As the prior post noted, the MB-D100 has the voice feature (which I used all the time) and both command/sub-command dials. It comes with the 6-AA insert that I only used once. In addition, the grip has a 10-pin port for electronic cable release and AF-ON button. A great accessory. B&H has them listed for $99 but out of stock; well worth it if you can find one.

Re: D100 Grip Question

Don't waste your time on a used MB-D100. There are plenty of new grips being sold by reputible camera shops on Ebay. I've watched a few sell new for $50.00 or less.

Re: D100 Grip Question

you may want to watch out for those such as was just mentioned, they are "Made in China", and probably are cheaply made knock-offs, haven"t seen one myself but "buyer beware" should apply.
