D100 Question

Does the diopter control for the viewfinder on a D100 have any effect on autofocus or image sharpness?

Re: D100 Question

diopter controls never affect autofocus or image sharpness-- the diopter only adjusts the magnification factor of what you see through the viewfinder.

Re: D100 Question

It can sure throw you for a loop while you are trying to use the camera, though, sometimes I have a lens in MF position and when it does not ever look clear, I blame the diopter. So always check both the diopter adjustment and the mf/af switch.

Re: D100 Question

Quick tip to lock both the diopter control and the rubber eye-cup to the body...

1. remove the rubber eyecup, if it hasn't already been lost (DK-10 is the replacement eye cup same one used for F/N-60 & F/N-80 )

2. adjust the diopter correction to your eye-site. usually, you take the lens off and focus the adjustment on the grid or lcd display in the viewfinder for its sharpest appearance.

3. put a "small" amount of clear (Permatex) silicon sealer in the grove of the eye cup. You can also use black or other colors, but clear is the least obnoxious color besides black and I use it on other things besides.

4. put the eye cup back on to the eye piece and a little of the excess silicon on both ends of the diopter correction slider; clean up the excess and don't get any on the glass part of the viewfinder.

5. let dry overnight (silicon sealer easily peels off once dry).

Not only will your diopter we set in place, but you will be less likely to loose your rubber eye cup thus scratching your glasses like my old pair...

This works well on the D-70, also. So far, I haven't lost a cup for quite a while.

HTH,
