Re: How do you get the shutter clicks ?

[ QUOTE ]
For example:

exiftool -shuttercount file

where "file" is the name of an image file that still has the EXIF information in it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anyone know how to do this with a D1x, or is it too old? I find "shutter count" fields in newer Canons and Nikons, but not mine (also Canon S45 p/s).

Thanks!

Re: How do you get the shutter clicks ?

Photoshop reads the exif data from Nikon NEF files and shows an exif field called ImageNumber, which is actually the shutter count. The exif data can be accessed by opening a RAW file in Photoshop. Once the RAW file is open go to File>File Info>Advanced>http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux. The third aux entry is aux: ImageNumber: the resulting number is the number of images the camera has produced.

The other software tools may make this task easier but I already own CS2.

I hope that helps.

Mike

Before anybody jumps on this post for lack of clarity, remember we ALL sometimes have difficulty expressing ourselves by typing and have language issues. I think what the poster is asking is how to tell the total number of times the shutter has been actuated. Am I correct Yakichi?

Thanks for watching out for me I appreciate it. I was just typing fast. I can speak real Imperium AmeriKan ;-) I'm 3rd generation Japanese-American from the 'hood. Literally. The boulevard scenes in Boys In The Hood was filmed in L.A. where I used to play and ride my bicycle as a kid in the 60's/70's. Still today, when I go on extended out of town gigs, I park my car at my folks house in the 'hood and catch the MTA bus to LAX to save money.

This must be a new feature of CS2 because I can't find "Advanced>http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux." listed in CS.

Re: How do you get the shutter clicks ?

After I wrote this I realized that I failed to take into account that the counter I mentioned gets reset when you recharge the battery.

Sorry

Re: How do you get the shutter clicks ?

Thanks, Michael. Looks like I am indeed too old, as the data did not show up for either camera. Must not be included in the files, as again, it did show up for newer cameras. And all this just out of curiosity!

Meanwhile, in making a couple of new images for a clean download (no PM, no annotations), my ancient Lexar FW reader died and I discovered my old AIS 50/1.4 doesn't seem to focus accurately beyond 10 or 12 feet. I'm blaming you guys.

I'll test it some more and maybe post a question elswhere.

Nikon only began embedding the shutter count in the D2H and later cameras. The D1-series does not generate the makernote tag that contains this value unfortunately. AFAIK Nikon's techs can give you the number for these (and earlier) cameras, however I don't know of any way for an end-user to locate it.
