Supplying large photo jobs to clients

Hi,

Just wanted to throw this out. How are D2x owners dealing with the increased file size of images when supplying large numbers to clients (ie 2,000 images at 70 megs a piece ... 300 DPI 16-bit .tiffs).

Not even dual layer DVDs seem to keep the number of discs supplied down to a reasonable amount. Are photographers now just shipping portable drives now that cost has come down?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rahoul

You must have extaordinary clients who want to wade through that much data.
Process to low res jpgs for browsing then give them the NEF's (if you must) and tell them to open through Photoshop CS2 or email you and have you process them.

I don't see the problem, it's 40 normal DVD's or 20 duel layer, At current prices it's under $35.
I deliver 20-100 cd/dvd to clients often.

Re: Supplying large photo jobs to clients

the problem is giving a client an unworked hirez file, whether from a D50 or a D2X, if you care about how your work will be reproduced, its just asking for trouble to send unworked files. You wouldn't give your negs to someone and hope they don't go to the pharmacy and get an atrocious print made, which then is a reflection of your "quality" work. I realize perhaps event photographers gotta get the schlep out, as they're dealing with tons of shots, but for nearly all of what we do commercially, we've educated our clients to receive final properly perpared files, just as properly done prints in the past were our priority.

Re: Supplying large photo jobs to clients

I purchased a couple of 20 gig pocket drives and deliver the work on the drive, if the client keeps the drive, I just bill them for the cost of the drive + 25% mark up for dealing with the purchase of the drive. If its too expensive or not warrented by the job, they return the drive in a week.

Most clients love the little Lacie drives and usually there is enough room in the budget for it in larger jobs.

Re: Supplying large photo jobs to clients

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

As to the photos, they were publicity stills for an eight-day television shoot, recording progress on a project from day to day. All were worked on and provided as final images for print on Dual Layer DVDs. Just seemed like a lot of time was spent burning. I will try the small portable hard drive next time as an option for clients.

Cheers

Rahoul
