REUTERS web page posted a very interesting story on the digital camera market. It seems that Canon and Sony are at the top of the market, while Olympus is having big problems. Nikon is making money on DSLR cameras, but expects prices to drop in the new year (Oh Yeah!). It'a really interesting story. Here's the link.

As long as they stick to this:

"Even makers with hit products have fallen on hard times. Nikon Corp. is making money on a new digital SLR launched in March, but still expects profits in its camera division to fall as prices of compact models slide.

"We expect prices to keep falling. But we are shifting our product line-up toward the high end," said Nikon Chief Financial Officer Kenji Enya."

I think we will be ok. Let the mass producing companies fight over the consumer grade cameras. As long as Nikon and Canon keep their eyes on the pro level equipment then I am a happy man. In fact as more and more people take up digital photography that is probably going to be the best spot to be in financially anyway.

I just cant wait till they get digital to the quality that chrome was at, that will be a fun day and after that the market will probably level out a little bit.
