SB80 DX with Quantum Turbo Battery problem

Hi, I am using an SB-80DX on my D1x, and wanted to use a quantum Turbo battery that I had. I bought the CKE cord, and although the battery is fully charged, it is not powering my flash. Is there something I am doing wrong? Am I using the right cord? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Re: SB80 DX with Quantum Turbo Battery problem

I have pretty well the same system except that it is a Quantum Turbo Z with the CKE, and sometimes get the same problem. This is what I've learned so far and you probably already know this.
SB80DX has to have batteries in flash
Once every thing is plugged in turn Quantum off then back on then you should get power.
Once in a while I've found that the cord is not plugged all the way into the flash almosts "clicks" when pushed all the way in.

Not sure if this helps

Re: SB80 DX with Quantum Turbo Battery problem

Having had problems using the Quantum on the SB 80DX I swapped to a Digital Camera Battery for more reliabilty and speed.

Re: SB80 DX with Quantum Turbo Battery problem

Quantum may not recommend it, but I've used the KZ2 cords on my SB80's for quite some time, which is great because it works with my old SB's. I was hoping that cord would work with the 800's but Nikon's got a different design in the battery chamber. I've been splurging on the Energizer lithiums (I've sometimes hit a deal of 8 for $14 but usually they're around $19) since they last so darn long and recharge so fast, plus my bag's lighter and it means at least one less cord. Thing about the lithiums is they should be removed from unit after use or they'll drain, at least this has been my experience. I just hang on to the handy packaging they come in and date the pack so I can reach for the freshest ones when I need to.

Anybody know where to get cheap(er) lithiums?

Re: SB80 DX with Quantum Turbo Battery problem

I've been using the Quantum turbo ever since the SB-24, now with SB-80
I have no problem at all (knock on wood)
probably bad/dirty contact on the module end
brush with water or contact cleaner
measure the voltage on the cable module end

Re: SB80 DX with Quantum Turbo Battery problem

Steve,

I use both the KZ2 (short) and MKZ2 (long) with my SB-80DX and Quantum QB1 Compact. No problem whatsoever, except the hole in my wallet.

Is the CKE cord the right one for this?
