LCD on D2H vs D100

I have both cameras. I started with the D100 and then purchased a D2H. The clarity and sharpness of the D100 lcd is far better than on my D2H. Yes, the D2H has a larger lcd, and the zoom responsiveness is far better on the D2H, but its far more difficult to assess the focus quality on my D2H than it is with my D100. I understand that the LCD isnt for assessing total image quality, however, it seems odd that the D100 does a far better job in the way of showing focus quality than the D2H. Is this unique to my D2H or have others found the same thing? Should my camera go back to Nikon for repair? Please let me know your experiences....

Much appreciated,

Bob

Re: LCD on D2H vs D100

I agree, it's more difficult to judge sharpness with the default view on the D2H. This is why I have the directional pad button set to zoom in during image review. This is a quick and easy way to judge sharpness with the D2H. I don't remember the menu setting for this off the top of my head but it shouldn't be too difficult to find or lookup in the manual.

Another way in which this feature overshadows the D100 is that once zoomed in, you can switch to the previous or next photos at the same zoom level. This makes it extremely easy to make sure I've got the sharpness I need across a sequence of shots.

Not a D2H shooter (yet), but John Cowley at Lonestar Digital addresses this issue in his article on the D2H. John shoots RAW and has sharpening set to Medium High or High to compensate for the softness in the LCD display. He resets sharpening to a more appropriate level in postprocessing.

His article is at:

I don't own a D2h but I don't understand why this would really be an issue. I use the screen to check exposure not focus. I don't delete many images in the field expect for my first few expsoure checks. If the D2h screen was accurate enough to judge exposure, I wouldn't care if it indicated with images were tack sharp or not.

I own both cameras.
I don't use the screen for anything else but exposure and possibly crop.
I reckon that they're both too small for my needs otherwise.
As always, when I get back to the batcave and download the files... I find that only the big screen can tell me anything else.
