Re: Will A D70 handle Sports Photo Work??

well I have never done karts, but I do a lot of hockey, which is fast and more unpredictable, sure the D70 isnt the fastest in autofocus, and D2h would be better, cost wise I can't justify it now. The lens helps a ton, if you don't have AF-S the D70 will suck. I find using the AE-L button on the back as the focus button (instead of shutter button) helps make the autofocus work better for you

Re: Will A D70 handle Sports Photo Work??

Ahh ok i think there is something wrong with my settings cos i just tried to time my frames per second and i'm getting probably close to one frame per second on CONTINUOUS which is situated next to the self times and single fps....
i then tried the F100 and i reckon i got close to 5fps....

I'm not sure why it's so slow, i should be getting at least 2-3 frames per second....
i have most of my options turned off, and did the test at 1/800th second on both...

Re: Will A D70 handle Sports Photo Work??

Carl...
I love my D70 and D100. But the auto focus on either camera takes forever to make up its mind. Then after it focuses.. when you press the button again.. it goes back and forth to decide again.
The D2h takes 'no time'. The sensor is unreal; as good as...

One night, this particular 'top fueler' 'rocketed' but within the first few seconds it's motor 'blew up'... You can't track that piston with a D70.(ofcourse you can with manual focus)

Horses for courses my friend?

Sometimes I stand half way up and shoot as they get closer.

My main gripe I've noticed, is obviously about auto focus. I can happily use a D70 for anything but I've been spoilt now.

It's all food for thought.

Regards,
Bill.

Jun: Yes you had better check your set up.

Bill: I agree with you that the D100 and the D70 have lots of limitations as compared to the D2H. I had a test shoot with the D2H and you are correct it can really bang off the frames. I have also done some shooting from a ways down the track and other than the take off it can be a long wait between anything exciting to capture. 8 shots of a car going by at 150 mph do not IMO show much in the way of excitement except if they do blow up. I quess for that one shot in many then the D2H would be the answer. I plan to move up to the D2X if it can match all the hype it is generating but for now as winter approches will have to get by with the D100. Cheers. hcarl
