Re: SB800 and wireless flash

I would doubt it, although I haven't tried, the pocket wizard simply triggers the flash. Usually I have the SB800 set to manual when I use the pocket wizards.

Can the Pocket Wizard radio triger, used with the SB 800's, and Nikon D2H, still have the same I-TTL results or would you set it in Auto?

Nope, unfortunately. You can have a SB-800/600 on the hot shoe and use it in iTTL while firing the remotes via a PW in A or manual however. Not a bad way to go especially if the remotes are for background lighting. Best....Peter

Re: SB800 and wireless flash

Do you think two sb800 would bounce enough light from the cieling to light an auditorium at 800 Iso? I used one sb600 bounced straight up with gary fong lightshere and got fair lighting at 1000. However it was super inconsistent. I had to set it at .5 to 1.3 stops under and had to adjust constantly. My sb800 was broken and I am using d200. Any sample shots of your largest dark rooms?

Re: SB800 and wireless flash

I have 3 SB-800's and like their portability. I find the results inconsistent and would like to hear from those who I gather are more successful than I. I've tried manual, aperture priority, and simply program on the body, and nothing is consistent.

I have the added frustration of not being able to use a light meter to check the output. It seems that the meter reads the preflash and therefore I can't be sure that the exposure is correct.

If you want to use a light meter then you want to use manual mode instead of iTTL. I do this when I mix them with studion lights

If what you are doing is on stage I think at ISO 800 the stage lights would provide sufficient light if the action on the stage was not moving to much.

As for the auditorium its self, how long is a peice of string? It would depend on the ambient light in the room and how large the room is.

One can never have too much light with them. They just do not have to use it all.

Re: SB800 and wireless flash

There are a couple of parallel threads on this board about the SB-800 and CLS. I have three SB-800s and one SU-800 and I absolutely love the system! I got the SU-800 because I seem to only photograph people who blink exactly as the shutter opens... it has no flash. My results are very consistent, and the SB-800 is a powerful flash, but then I'm not trying to light an auditorium! Please see the other threads for a wealth of information.
