| | | Re: D2H Skin Tone wow, it just never ends --- I am really sorry that some of you have problems with skin tones, and this color and that patch of dirt. I have had no problems. I have shot under every lighting condition with all kinds of subject matter and have yet to be disappointed in the D2H performance.
I have a tendency to stay back from these conversations, just like manufacturers do because it's constantly the same people that are always unhappy.
I've read Sal jump into every spot to cry the blues about his D2h and thank goodness I have heard a lot more people who are very pleased. Everyone knows you were unhappy.. Take a pill and get over it and move on.
you spoke with your wallet as did many of us. Some of us are happy and some are not. \ I do not know of any camera system that reaches the state of perfection that will make you happy.
Happy shooting with what ever you use.
If there is for some reason some cameras that are out there that are not performing in a way to make your lives less stressful, contact Nikon directly and let them know. I have no doubt that they will try everything in their power to make it right. - - But don't write the same complaint over and over again. Get it handled and go to work. | | Re: What color calibration are you using?

| | | Re: What color calibration are you using? Sal,
I know that you were one of the first to get a D2h, all I can say is that your past probelms with the camera don't represent what I see and I don't think I'm overly accepting. I've had a D1, D1x and now the D2h and it produces, by far, the most accurate colors. My guess is that the first product run from Nikon had some, as they say, issues. Many years ago in my mechanical engineering days we used to joke about throwing away the first 500 of anything our line (engineered aerospace structures) produced because everyone had a mistake. I never buy first. I'd like to be the first kid on the block with one, but I know from both professional and consumer experience that they all have problems. I've compared over 30 prints of side by side D1x, D2h, and 1D shots with the local store owner I buy from and we both prefer the D2h prints... and he's a Canon guy. But I will say the 1Ds is a real beauty.

Puhhleeze.
I have avoided it (for the most part) just so as not to hear reactions like yours.
But, crap is crap and there is plenty of it coming from D2h's.
Again, you guys can rationalize it all you want.
Glad your getting good results.
Why not post some(good skin tone) photos. Others as well.
Again, I don't regret dumping this camera at all. And, _again_ glad others like it, and get good results.
Not sure how this is "crying the blues."

I agree, most of what you posted was crap. For whatever reason, my results are dramatically better. I choose not to insult you, but suggest that perhaps later units were better. Pretty simple. If you call that rationalizing, so be it, but the proof is in a quality print, and that's what I'm getting from a high quality photo lab with and a tech who knows how to calibrate a Fuji Frontier. Nothing else to say. BTW are you swithcing to another brand?

Again, I think that's great.
I wish my experience with the camera was better.
Because, if you knew me, you would know that I have been (one of) Nikon's biggest supporters for over 30 years, and no one wanted to like the camera more than me. I have loved and owned at least three of every camera since the F2.
Granted, my (D2h) body was one of the first on the street. But I am still seeing the same, if not similar skin tones (like Dennis said in the beginning of this thread.) I was just agreeing with Dennis.
Hey, why not post some samples? I'd love to see some great results from you happy campers!

P.S. I'd rather fight than switch. I stick with Nikon for the flash (basically) and ergonomics. For now! | | Re: What color calibration are you using?

Hey everyone. I didn't start this thread to start a fight among posters. I don't want Mike to put a lock on this yet. To answer one post my monitors and other viewing software are calibrated enough to tell what is what colorwise. I look at what you all have posted...here, sportsshooter, pbase?, personal web sites, other forums, reviews... If it is my viewing system then maybe we should drop the subject and I can reach my own conclusions later.

Sal,
I think the best comparisons are done in print, not over the net. I'll check with the store owner tomorrow and see if he still has the files and/or prints. I'll be happy to send them to you. Since most of my D2h shots are of my daughters, I won't post them...a paranoia thing.
Also, I don't think Dennis owns the camera and I have a hard time drawing conclusions from somone else's shots since I don't know the lighting, their abilities, the actual skin tones, or other colors. That's why I did my own tests side by side with my D1x. All factors were known.
