Stolen camera registry?

Anybody know if there is any type of registry or database for stolen Nikon cameras? If so, can it be accessed and checked against serial numbers?

Just curious...nothing stolen here. Might be a good idea to know about when considering buying a used camera.

Re: Stolen camera registry?

you have a nice idea. If it were called 'Lost or missing' I could live better with that maybe. What were you able to find that looked as if it was proper and already in place by searching the WWW. ??
thanks,

Re: Stolen camera registry?

There's one over on the photo.net web site (www.photo.net). I also did a Google search and saw a few others listed. Doesn't seem to be one centralized location, however. I wonder if any of the camera manufacturers maintain a list with serial numbers of lost/missing/stolen cameras, so when one of those cameras comes in for repair or whatever, it would put up a red flag.

Re: Stolen camera registry?

At least in europe, NPS (Nikon proff. Services)maintains a reg. for all NPS members. And equip. is also checked during service/sales... as well a contact net with insurance and, so they say div. police groups... Dont' know about NPS USA though...been working on this side of pond for quite some time...if you are an NPS mem. your local rep. should know.

Yes,

There is a site called RegisterYourCamera.com (RYC) An online registry for photographic equipment. which addresses your question.

Stolen Camera Registry
Re: Stolen camera registry?

Stolen Property - International search and report of stolen property has a good stolen camera registry.

I was free and easy to use. It allows users to search to see if a camera has been reported stolen or to report a stolen camera.
