Wildlife in Yellowstone

Hi everyone;

What is the best time of year to photograph wildlife in Yellostone?

Thanks,
Raul.

Winter is the best time. Clear dark blue skies with a brilliant white background.

Re: Wildlife in Yellowstone

Thanks Dale.

But when is it easier to see wildlife (in general), the fall, winter or spring? When is it more interesting from the point of view of animal activity (breeding in spring? mating in the fall? etc)? I know that this is subjective, since not everyone will think alike about when is the best time, but I am trying to gain knowledge on what can be seen when to plan my trip, so all your personal preferences will help.

Thanks,
Raul.

Re: Wildlife in Yellowstone

In the fall, the elk are in rut so the big bulls have herds of cows and are bugling a lot and challenging other bulls that come near. That doesn't happen in the spring, so you will probably see fewer elk, plus the bulls will have dropped their antlers. For elk, the fall is the best time. If you are lucky, like I was the first week of last October, it will snow and you will get good scenic shots. Also, the snow seemed to bring out the coyotes, since we saw several after it snowed.
