Yellowstone National Park

"For The Benefit And Enjoyment Of The People" - I hope you enjoy this little taste of Yellowstone and the surrounding area. Comments/critiques welcomed.

Yellowstone 2007

BTW - the majority of these photos (except for long shots on wildlife) were taken with a MkIII... the others with a 30D.

Great shots, Dave! My family and I went to Yellowstone last summer, and it was an awesome time. However, my wife told me before we went "This is a family vacation; not a photo shoot!". I believed her. I still got some great shots, but no tripod work or waiting for light.

Next time: "photo shoot!"

Ken

I hear you on that, Ken

I was originally going on this trip solo, but my wife eventually decided she'd like to go, too (I was happy to have her along). I warned her that I was going to be stopping to take pictures, etc, etc... well... she got impatient, etc, so I didn't end up doing a couple of things that I would've otherwise done, like longer hikes, or a longer amount of time working over areas. This was why I only did Upper Geyser Basin... she got bored with looking at the stuff there, and wouldn't have tolerated another geyser basin Good excuse to go back, though...

She was a good sport, though, and was a patient as she could be. Eventually, we figured out that giving her a camera helped ease the boredom, so she took my 30D around. The only problem was that I was perpetually needing the lens that she had... so next time, I'll have more glass along, too

Re: Yellowstone National Park

Dave,

Beautiful photos... Yellowstone is one of my favorite places. I really enjoyed looking at all of your shots.

I can relate to the spouse thing... my husband is extremely patient but as another poster said... there is no waiting for better light. I don't blame him, he knows our vacations are pretty much the only time that I have to improve my photography and he is great at helping me "lift & tote" to get a better shot. I think the best situation is if you have a spouse who loves to read and is content to read while you kill endless hours getting just the right shot. I have a good friend who loves to hunt for artifacts in area creeks and such. His wife loves to read so she just takes a lawn chair and a good book and he digs around as long as he wants.

Again, I loved your photography and it made me wish I was in Yellowstone right now.

Donna

Re: Yellowstone National Park

Beautiful work, Dave.

Having been there myself this summer, I especially enjoyed the revisit. I caught many of the same shots (e.g., the waterfalls), and yours are just wonderful in that the light is quite different than in mine.
