Re: Canon 100-400L IS w/ 1.4x TC -- How sharp?

I have the 10D and 100-400 IS and love it. I also heard about the taping trick and bought a 1.4 extender. The autofocus worked but not as great as you would hope, once in a while it would vibrate and click. The image quality for me was not up to par. It was not that bad and with IS you could still get usable pics. Also some CA became visible in white objects edges. In the end though I realized that the teleconverters were designed to be used with really sharp primes. I would suggest you buy the converter locally and try it and can return it. Maybe rent it. The image quality is good for some and not so good for other people.

Cheers
Eric
