oh, what to do? should i finally get rid of film?

has anyone gone through this or could offer any advice.... i've recently put my phaseone P25 on my view camera which i currently use with my 4x5 lenses, i had a 210 and 360mm for it which i sadly sold for the P25, the 210 has really hard to let go being the stape 4x5 lens and the one i started LF photography with.

i currently use a 150 and 90mm 4x5 lens with the P25, but I want to get a digital LF lens or two as well as a cambo wide ds or similar system for WA lenses and movements, so the thoughts are crossing my mind to get rid of them. obviously a personal decision, but am unsure of what am getting into or the direction i want to commit to.

(reality kind of hits of not shooting a sheet of film anymore, but i havent had any requests for it in several years and dont see it coming back, nor do i see myself shooting bw film for my landscapes like i did and drum scanning it)

thanks

Re: oh, what to do? should i finally get rid of film?

It's a decision we've all faced. I say look forward and embrace the new technology.

There could come a time when you look back on the stuff you did with film and say "Wow, did I really think that was good back then?" It's hard to believe but it really does happen. The digital realm opens up new possibilities.

We've all heard of the occasional photog who has filled a niche by continuing to shoot film while all others have gone on... Last frog on the lilypad.

One thing that really helps in embracing digital - especially with the huge files you get with that digital back - is a top of the line computer workstation (I'm not saying you don't already have one; just waxing a bit philosophical). It's night and day trying to process images on a computer that's not got the guts to do it right vs. one that's got plenty of power. Personally I feel the added creative capability with digital manipulation really adds to the photographic experience. Sure, you scan your film images, but there's just that much more integration with a device that produces data directly.

Edit: P.S., on reading your original post I realize you're asking more about specifics than I have answered here. Please take my comments with a grain of salt. I'm a little punchy at this hour.

Re: oh, what to do? should i finally get rid of film?

thanks, for the moment, i am selling my one of my LF lenses for 4x5, but keeping the standard FL one. also going is the polaroid 545 holder, as digital has replaced it making it obsolete. i think i will keep the 4x5 film holders though. its spring time and i have various electronics for sale, hopefully i can scrap up $2000 for LF digital lens, also want to get into a cambo wide ds and a 47/35/28mm lens some day.

while not the right place i know...i have a lot of stuff on ebay including a clean 544i 4x5 polaroid holder, schneider 90/5.6 super angleon XL, canon 16-35/2.8 Mk1. let me know if interested.

How about posting a "for sale" ad or link to your eBay auctions in the trading post? It's free...
