Phase One Upgrade Policy

This is a copy of a thread posted by me on the Phase One web site. Is anyone else having a similar experience?

"I am now rapidly coming to the conclusion that Phase One gives top priority to the sale of P+ series backs to new owners and very low priority to current owners seeking to upgrade to the P+ series. After all, isn't it better to sell a new back for over 30k rather then make an exchange for 8k? This seems like the only plausible explanation for over a six month delay in receiving the upgrade I ordered through Calumet. I know Phase One is a small company with limited production, but give me a break! When a large camera store like Calumet cannot provide their customers with answers because they cannot get the answers themselves, something is very wrong."

"If Phase One is not going to honor their commitment to current owners in a reasonable and timely fashion, they should not make any commitment at all."

"It has been recently said that the current digital backs on the market are now so close in quality and performance, that a major factor to consider before purchasing is the reliability and integrity of the company. It is my sincere hope that Phase One keeps this in mind."

Re: Phase One Upgrade Policy

i have only purchased one back a regular p25 from capture integration in atlanta and its was a great experience. chris the sales manager there entertained all of my questions for six months before i bought it. keeping with past experience, i would expect them to be responsible and timely with any upgrades. it only took P1 about 3-5 business days to ship it to them before shipping it to me once i ordered it.

i chose them b/c they are very knowledgeable, a little off the beaten path of larger cities and are willing to spend more than 10 secs on the phone with you.

Re: Phase One Upgrade Policy

Michael, I appreciate your comments. What I am getting from Calumet is that they cannot get information on delivery dates from Phase One. Therefore, I am assuming that the problem does not lie with the dealer, but with Phase One itself. I requested the upgrade from a P45 to P45+ last April and was told it would take about 90 days at most. I suspect that I would have had a new back along time ago if it was not an upgrade at a significantly reduced price.

Re: Phase One Upgrade Policy

i would ask chris at capture integration about the situation. i bet they can throw their weight alittle to phase one being the top dealer last year.

yeah for a P45+ you would expect a little service...

Re: Phase One Upgrade Policy

Derrick Brown in Mass, Boson area, held my hand back in the dark days (10 years ago!).

I whole heartily recommend him for sales and support. He and his people know all aspects not just the backs. Color management, output and asset management is a big part too. They sell phase and leaf.
