Which lenses are new to Mamiya 645?

Hi.

I'm working on the Mamya RZ platform but when upgrading my PhaseOne P45 to P45+ I have changed from Hasselblad V to Mamiya 645 mount (have bought a RZ IID and Mamiya adapterplate......and feel crazy to do that as I do have two RZ's) so it's possible to buy a Mamiya 645 AFD II house and some few lenses.

But before I buy some Mamiya 645 lenses I would like to know which lenses are new to Mamiya 645 AFD II and which lenses I don't have to buy.

Re: Which lenses are new to Mamiya 645?

all the AF one are current. if you have an RZ system, i would just buy the wider angle lenses than the RZ system offers, (35mm, 45mm). it wouldnt hurt to get a 80mm and 150mm for the 645 system. i buy them all used, lightly used, for over 1/2 off the new price. i got the 35mm for about $1000, the 55mm and 150 each for about for $400-450, my 80mm was new with the camera.

the 645AFDII body is just the new part, all AF and even MF lenses work on it. mainly AF was improved on the body.

Re: Which lenses are new to Mamiya 645?

Hi Michael.

Thanks for the answer. But I can't use it.

Have you testet your Mamiya 645 lenses with a PhaseOne P45 DB?

I have a some fine APO Rodenstock and Scneider lenses for my Sinar which I can't use with my P45 as they are not sharp. Even not a 3 year old Rodenstock 120mm Macro APO Sironar which did work fine with my H20. So for me this means, that if a lens is god enough for film or an old DB, it does not mean you can use on the best digital backs of today.

My 75mm, 110mm, 140 Macro and 180mm for the RZ is sharp. But the 250mm for the RZ not is god enough with my P45. I have to have the APO 250 if I want to use that focal lenght. And my 50mm RZ is allmost OK but the 50mm ULD would be better and so. The same for the 150mm for the Hasselblad H series. That lens is not as god as other H lenses.

That's why I did ask if there is some lenses to Mamiya 645 AFDII there is better than other when I use a PhaseOne P45+ DB. Or should I wait til Mamiya do make some more Digital lenses like the new 28mm and 75-150mm even this is an "old" zoom.

About the wide angel, I do have a Cambo DS wide with a 35mm Schneider Digitar. And that is just an amazing lens with the P45. I use it for architechture and landscape and do shots where I stitch 2 or 3 shots. That gives me an OK filesize ;-)

Re: Which lenses are new to Mamiya 645?

havent used the P45, but i own a P25.

i would assume the 67 lenses wont have the resolution you need as they are designed for film, which the larger the format the lower the resolution of the lens. not saying the lenses are horrible, just since its a larger format and the negs wont be enlarged to the degree that 35mm film will be for common prints.

with that in mind, 645 lenses make the most sense.

if you want the best, the rodenstock HR LF lenses are the best and at about $3-5,000 each you would expect it. i think they can resolve under 6.8uM, smaller than the P45 pixels.

i'm happy with my mamiya 645 lenses though. while it will be good or better, i wouldnt expect the new mamiya glass to be extrodinary. just how things are, nothing against the company.

Re: Which lenses are new to Mamiya 645?

Hi Michael.

PhaseOne H20 and P25 do have the same pixelsize and that why you don't have problems with your lenses. I'm shure that you will find some bad lenses among your 645 lenses if you test them with a P45. And it's what I want to know.

About the RZ lenses I can say that they are realy sharp.........when they are sharp........probably at Schneider Digitar level.

The difference between Rodenstock HR LF and Scheider Digitar is allmost the same and that in mind it's for a technical camera with a DB and not the Mamiya 645. It could be great if it was so but there will be some technical problems as you have to use a retrofocus construction for the wides for the Mamiya (and other mediumformatcameras).

So if anyone who use a PhaseOne P45 and Mamiya 645 AFD read about this I would like to have their experience about the 645 lenses. Which are god and which are bad.

Re: Which lenses are new to Mamiya 645?

so the benefits of the digital large format lenses is that they are not a retrofocus construction? seems to make sense, but i couldnt justify buying a 35mm or wider lens for a view camera to use with a back because they dont allow any movents due to a small image circle, maybe a little movents on the 35mm but not enough for me to buy it. i kept my schneider 90/5.6 super angelon and 150/5.6 for use with the back, both of which are 4x5 lenses, but havent used them yet.

so you have used the Rod HR lenses and compared them to the Sch Digitars? would be interested in hearing how they stack up. sounds like it would be better to save the money and use the digitars, which are still a great lens. the HRs are supposed to blow everything out of the water.
