A quick update ... the Dell U2410 arrived and I got it hooked up and using it but haven't had time to pull out the calibration tools yet.

I'm VERY impressed. For CDN $499. on sale, it's a bargain. 24" IPS screen with 1920x1200, HDMI, 2xDVI, VGA, video in, card reader, plus a handful of other connections I would never use, 100% sRGB, 96% aRGB. Since I print sRGB, it's all I am going to need. Viewing angle on the IPS screen is impressive.

I don't doubt that some of the monitors at 3 times the price will be much better but when you're shopping this price range, I doubt it can be beat (well, at least for a week or so)
