Re: Mac OS X Snow Leopard

I'm finding the old Gretag/Macbeth Eye One Match software a little flaky under Snow Leopard, particularly the nanny program that checks the current profile and nags you every four weeks. Somehow, I doubt we can expect a software update from X-Rite, which now owns Gretag/Macbeth.

I’m still waiting to hear whether the NEC Spectra View stuff works under SL. I've seen intimations of trouble there on various forums.

Re: Mac OS X Snow Leopard

I have solved my problem with the HP DreamColor Advanced Profiling Solution software (written by Xrite) and Snow Leopard. I completely uninstalled the software including the OBIWAN Driver for the Xrite puck that loaded on startup. I also deleted the associated plist file (com.xrite.ninjad.plist) located in User/Library/Launch Agents.

A reboot after the software uninstall and then a reinstall of the software seems to have corrected the problem.

Xrite Tech support was not very forthcoming with a solution, they sent me the following email suggesting I do a permissions repair:

As you probably know, Snow Leopard was released last Friday. Our engineers will require some time to complete their compatibility testing. We will update our website with relevant information and bug fixes as we complete testing on this OS.

In the meantime, rebuilding your disk permissions is always a good first step in troubleshooting software issues on the Mac. You may want to see if that helps to resolve your issues with your HP DreamColor APS.

Basically their Mac support sucks...

Snow Leopard is gamma 2.2 instead of gamma 1.8
That is a tidbit I did not know before. Thanks for that info.

Wow, that says that Apple is giving in to the domination of the planet by the gamma 2.2 PCs.

I'm reminded of the recent Mac vs. PC commercial... "When you're ready to compromise, give me a call."

Now, I *WISH* Apple would license OSX (whatever kitteh is current) so I could run it in a virtual machine!!!!!! I need to do Apple development. I know Apple is a hardware company. I'm still not going to switch to a Mac Pro just to port my products to OSX. I have a lifetime invested in Windows!

AHH, there lies Apple's conundrum.

If they continued to sell their hardware/software combo's and also sold the OS as a stand alone solution for people who want other hardware boxes, they would have multi-millions of new converts. The risk is that they would then become the same as MS, instead of being *special*. I for one would be a convert. Our world needs equal Ying & Yang. Perhaps this gamma change is a hint of what lies in the future.

But then, who would mac owners be able to smirk at??? Sorry, just had to. I had an interview with a prospective employee last week who poo-poohed me for being a pc shop. I suggested that PS runs pretty much identically on either. He would have none of that. Wonder if he got hired? I honestly didn't hold that against him but the strong feelings he had for many other things tipped the scales pretty fast.

Open source forever.

So you're saying selling software to millions of people makes for worse software?

I suppose it's hard to argue against the point that being Marketing-driven leads to bad software. It does seem to lead to computers becoming something else entirely - entertainment devices bent on delivering ad content for one thing. I hate that.

First Wintel, now Aptel I suppose. Sigh.

I was more referring to the 85 ton gorilla. Apple is still only 10 ton.

I think Psystar might be the one with ongoing litigation from Apple since (as I understand it) Apple's licence agreement does not allow their OS to be installed on a non-mac. Just what I have read.
