Mac Pro with Nehalem Processors

Apple claims that the dual quad core Nehalem processors provide up to a 1.9x speed increase over previous generation Mac Pros.

This is impressive, and their architecture page surely does seem to say all the right stuff.

Apple - Mac Pro - Features - Processor - The fastest and most powerful Mac ever.

That's a lotta cores in one workstation! And it's got Turbo Boost!!!

So... Anyone gotten one of these hyperspeed Macs lately? Is it speedier'n a top fueler at the Gatornationals? Quicker'n a frat boy on his way to an open bar? Faster'n a rodeo clown in front of a raging bull?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm always interested in the latest state of the art workstation designs, and it's been a long time since I've seen a big jump in performance on the PC side (Dell, where are you?).

-Noel

Re: Mac Pro with Nehalem Processors

Noel,

I am sure you know of it, but I would recommend diglloyd.com: Contents as a superb source on this subject.

If I am not mistaken a certain Martin D (of these forums) was responsible for the (imho) elegant design of diglloyd.

Another small world.

jon

(ps to Martin, great job on diglloyd, thanks)

Thanks, Jon. It has been a great project, and it's still very much underway. Lloyd's point of view may not be for everyone, but he's been doing truly extraordinary testing and reporting both on the Mac side and the camera body & lens side. I just spent the day finishing a big overhaul of the presentation of his massive Zeiss ZF/ZE lens report. I would very much like to have three of those lenses.

Only three ?

As you say, Mr Lloyd has a particular style - and one that I appreciate for its' honesty and thoughtful research, even if I do not concur sometimes.

Today he is reviewing seaweed......

(I assume it is something in the air in the Bay area...)
