OT - DJ software

I have a friend of mine who's a DJ, and he just bought a MacBook Pro. He's been trying to use itunes as his main software, but he has 89 GB worth of MP3 files, and it's already crashed the system. I was wondering if there was a way of running iTunes from an external disk, or if there are some better music programs that would work for what he's doing?
