I have not read anthing about not mixing brands. What is the rationale for that recommendation? What do you mean by "stripe the drives." Is this an absolute or just a precaution? I have no idea what manufacturer Apple put in my Mac Pro. I am planning on adding a Seagate.

We are talking about a RAID here, I'm not sure you intend to do that or not. Mixing brands or even models of the same brand can cause performance hiccups in a RAID due to different cache sizes, seek times, etc. Inconsistent performance in other words.

Thanks - I though you meant a RAID. No, I do not plan on doing this.
