New iMacs Debut

Apple has just released the updated iMacs in 20 and 24" varieties. Both feature aluminum enclosures and the display is covered with glass (glossy only). There is a new ultra slim keyboard. Processors have been upgraded to intel core 2 duo 2.4 gig for the 20" and core 2 extreme 2.8 gig for the 24". Memory has also been increased to 4 gig capacity, hard drives up to 750 gig for the 20" and 1 terabyte for the 24". Graphic card is now the ATI HD2600 Pro with 256gig of vram.

iLife 2008 and iWorks 2008 were also released. There are Aperture and Front Row updates to correspond with the new iLife release.

Re: New iMacs Debut

And something else that might be of interest to prospective Mac Pro owners....there was also announced a card to enable RAID in hardware.

Unfortunately it does not look clear as to whether this can be fitted to existing Mac Pro units

Re: New iMacs Debut

I bought a 20" iMac (the faster 2.4GHz one) tonight. I also have a Mac Pro. This new one (I'm posting from it now) will be the new "family" machine; it takes up little space on our kitchen desk and looks really nice to boot.

I haven't installed any additional software yet, but I've played with the new version of iPhoto a bit, and it's really quite nice. Not much else to report at this time, but feel free to fire away if you have any questions (you might want to PM me, as I don't check this sub-forum often).

New iMac teardown:

The 20" model uses a Philips LCD (LG Philips LM201 WE3). The glass overlay appears to be tinted.

Here is another link describing calibration results:
