Intel Macs and Leaf/Photoshop etc

Hi Folks

I'm about to move into the digital world with Leaf and will need a laptop to go with it. I had assumed I would go for the new Intel Macbook Pro to give me the best chance of a speed jump when all the various software (Photoshop, LC, etc) gets the Universal treatment and run it all under Rosetta emulation in the mean time. I have just had a call however from my suplier saying that the new Macs won't run the existing software at all and probably won't for another six months or so until its re-written, making the new Macs useless for my needs and therefore requiring I go back to the old (slow) G4 Powerbook instead.

My understanding was all existing software should run on the new Macs via emulation and I just won't see the speed hike until they are optimised. Have I misunderstood or has my supplier been mis-informed? Can anyone with their finger on the pulse here enlighten/re-assure me? Yair, if you read this perhaps you could comment on the Leaf side of things? Also anyone from Apple out there who could comment?

Thanks folks.

Matt

PS I've cross posted in the Medium Format forum as well in case this is the wrong place for this question.

Re: Intel Macs and Leaf/Photoshop etc

many programs inc photoshop will work straight away with emulation with the intel mac. and i also got told from my dealer in australia (baltronics) that LC 10 will work on the intel, but with emulation. also, the native LC 10 wont take long to release as native as its written in java and can be recoded easily (im no computer programmer- im just relaying what ive been told).
ive been practicing with LC10 on a powerbook g4, but it is so slow- practically useless if was on a shoot with it. C1 is twice as fast ( and that runs like a snail). i was going to buy a imac g5 and stick it in a case to take it on location if i buy a leaf back.
besides the software being slow- it is really nice software.
the version 8 software seems to go well on a g4 powerbook.
