\"Say something virus:?

My G4 Powebook has just started speaking, "Say something" and the windows shrink to become small!

Have I somehow empowered Mac Speach or do I have a virus?

Either you've discovered the first 'in-the-wild' virus for OS X (and will become a celebrity?) - or you've turned on either Speakable Items (Speech pane) or VoiceOver (Universal Access pane). Although I'm not sure what would make the windows shrink - is it like Exposé?

Hi Ian,

I have just completed a Virex scan of my Powerbook (OSX.3.9) and no viruses were found in "Home". However, it seems that only "Users" was examined. I have now restarted scan for "All Volumes".

I don't see any other program working and since I turned of Safari last night, there computer has stopped speaking, at least for the moment!

I have never used Speakable Items or VoiceOver, allthough thanks for mentioning them, I checked those panels in System Preferences and the speach is machine-like, whereas the "Say Something!", sounds much more real.

Anyway, I made sure the all those panels are off.

Weird!

I've never used Expose. do all the windows shrink to the center of the screen?

I have so many Macs and have never seen this before.

Well, "Say something!"

In other words it was a web ad with audio...

Exposé (10.3 and above) has several modes - show all windows of all non-hidden applications (F9), show all windows of frontmost application (F10) and show desktop (F11). Exposé defaults to being turned on, so it sounds like you hit a key by accident.

If you've not used it yet, you are in for a treat!

I'm not sure if that's supposed to be sarcasm, but Asher already stated that he's never used Exposé.

Now hold down Shift and the F-key...

Re: \"Say something virus:?

Yes, Ian,

Expose is delightful. The difference is that the windowsshrunk in the center with a normal clear b.g. whereas in Expose, the b.g. is dark. Still I do beleive that Expose could somehow be the answer to what I've got.

Perhaps there was a macro that worked on Expose and a little snippet that ordered, "Say something".

Anyway, Virex 7.2 scanned 295,488 files, but not 2482 (why does it miss them??) and found one file possible infected and deleted it.

I am not ready to say this is a virus. i will wait to see if this little voice returns

I would love someone to point me to an Apple App that says, "Say something"? Is there a recording or typing app that does this?
