Where oh where is OS 9.2?

Where oh where is OS 9?

One of our systems had a very bad crash and we had to reload everything from the OS on up. Never had a lick of trouble w/ OS 10 but nothing would right it, no pre binding root command, etc.

When the re-installed OS was up and running we had no OS 9. The apple disks did not install it. Not good.

Is there a way to add OS 9 for the app or two that we still use in 9?

Thanks

Go to the Apple web site:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120030

You can download it from there.

It apperas that 9.1 (then 9.2) can't be installed. I am running panther3.1. No classic? There must be a way. Apple site does not yeild info on how to do it.

In System Preferences, the preference pane for Classic is missing? You may need to install OS 9.x.x first then install Panther. When I did a clean install of Panther the installer script left my OS 9 partition alone. But on a G4 Powerbook Classic runs fine with 10.3.1

Re: Where oh where is OS 9.2?

OS X disks, either Jaguar or Panther, are just that: OS X. They don't include OS 9.

The OS 9 updates available for download at Apple are just that: updates. They only update an existing install of OS 9 to a newer version.

If you have wiped the drive and lost your installation of OS 9 then you need to install it from either the software restore disks that came with the machine (assuming it came with OS 9 and the ability to boot from it) or else a stand alone OS 9 installer disk.

Classic requires 9.1 or newer, and I believe 9.2.2 is recommended.

Re: Where oh where is OS 9.2?

Actually, 10.2 and 10.3 retail install disks include a separate "Classic" install. These will only install classic on machines that won't boot 9.x but on those machines that will boot from 9.x you CAN install classic on the OS X boot drive and copy the 9.x components to another 9.x bootable partition. Pretty sure the Apple web site has info on this as does the retail install disks.
