Mac & PCMIA CF adapter problem

Hi,

I am using PB Titanium 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.2.8. It hangs almost everytime I plug in the CF card adapter to the PCMIA slot. The system would freeze for 1-2 minutes. Sometimes I have to reboot the system. The problem started since OS X 10.2.4.

I wonder if this problem is fixed with Panther.

Don't count on it.

Your best bet is to use an external Firewire card reader -- it's way faster than the PC card slot, and won't hang up your system. Look on the main Rob Galbraith page for a review of card readers.

I'm not having any problems on Panther with my adapter. You may want to read this FAQ on PCMCIA cards from the Apple Knowledge Base. This Apple article on CF card adapters might also be of interest

Re: Mac & PCMIA CF adapter problem

It seems to work much better under Panther. On the other hand I bought a Delkin Firewire card reader that is much much faster.

Re: Mac & PCMIA CF adapter problem

I have had no problems up until 10.2.8 After downloading the update the machine would freeze after ejecting a card. The only solution for me was to boot off the jaguar cd and reinstall 10.2 (about a hour leaving the machine unattended) After that was done I downloaded the 10.2.6 update off the Apple support site and am not going to touch 10.2.8... Is this not stupid Apple????

Well I am happy to not lug a card reader around on small assignments anymore.

Good Luck

Erik
