S-L-O-W PB-G3 Firewire

Surely I'm not the only one with this problem, but I couldn't find a similar one in this forum. This is it----I might as well go out for a 10 mile hike as wait for images to transfer via internal Firewire from my tethered DCS330 to my PB 500mh/256RAM G3. The helpful guys @ Kodak said that they, and Apple, were aware of the problem, and suggested the "fix" posted on the Apple website. (Firmware PB FW 2.7 .smi) I downloaded the file, but my PB won't install it. Running OS 9.1 with the latest firewire enablers and extensions. I was hoping the transer rate would rival my G4 Desktop. Suggestions anyone?

well known issue with Kodak cameras and the G3 Firewire laptops. My solution was to buy a "firewire-2-go" pc card . That cures the problem, if you can spare the use of the card slot when tethered.

It's tru the firewire on a powerbook is not the same as on a desktop mac. Did some test with a dcs 660. transmitting after a test hot to have the image on my desktop was 68 seconds. The same image with a Oranglink card give me 9 seconds.......And the orange card give you two fire wire entrys without any coneection cable like the fire2go cards.
