G3 PowerBook doesn\'t mount card in slot....

I have a brand new PowerBook G3 and I have the card adapter that came with my 1G Microdrive. When I put the adapter and card into the slot, the drive does not automatically pop up on the desktop. I usually have to restart the machine to get it to recognize the card. I am very Mac fluent, however this is my first experience working with a PC card. Am I missing something? Thanks for the help!

Have you got the latest version of Toast installed ??

If so you need to turn off the extension as it is a known conflict.

Hope that helps.

specifically, "Toast CD Reader" extension. I think 4.1.2 was the culprit. Toast 5 might fix this, as did a beta cd reader extension 4.1.3b that I have, if you need it.

Re: G3 PowerBook doesn\'t mount card in slot....

Hi Jeff

First start with the basics. First ZAP you PRAM ( APPLE+OPTION+P+R) on a restart. I have had a card reader not work at all or only show the card after a restart many times. That has always solved the problem for me also rebuild the desktop,(APPLE+OPTION+RESTART) which is a good thing to do every few months.

I have also heard of some issues with some card adapters that don't work with certain type cards. Be sure you are using a supported card adapter for your Microdrive. If you still have the problem then you should start looking at some extensions. Create a new set and view as packages. Turn off some, restart, and see if your problem is still there. If so turn them back on and some more off and repeat the process until you find the problem. This is a process used by Apple Tech Support for problem solving extension. Hope this helps

Thanks to all who replied! I removed the Toast CD reader and the problem disappeared. (I'm not sure why I even installed Toast since I don't burn CD's from the laptop anyway....)

Thanks again for the help!

Jeff
