Epson 1280 problems on old Mac

I have a Mac 8500 without USB built in. I recently purchased an Epson 1280 printer to use with this computer. I have a firewiredirect (it actually gets it power from your power supply instead of the pci slot.) usb card in the computer. All my other USB devices seem to work fine, but can't get my printer to work. Epson claims they don't support USB plug in cards. Has anyone discovered a work around for this? The printer prints about half a page and then stops.

I own a beige G3 PowerMac and use a Firewire direct USB/Firewire PCI card and have an Epson 2000P connected and it works fine. Make sure you have the Firewire Direct software installed and I'm not sure what MacOS you're running, probably not the latest stuff since you don't have a G3.

You probably need Apple's USB Card Support 1.2 software for the USB extensions. They do have a v1.4.1 software out but I think you're supposed to use v1.2

Let me know if you need the software as I could just email it directly to you, otherwise you can just get it off the Apple website.

Re: Epson 1280 problems on old Mac

Thanks Barron for your info. I do have the latest OS and had downloaded the updated drivers. I finally got it to work. What seems to be the problem is a conflict between my Microtech Card reader and the Epson printer. By turning off the card reader in the extenstions manager, I can get the printer to work fine.
I just wish tech support from epson could have helped me. They just seem to want to pass the buck everytime. Their first response was that Mac OS 9 is not supported, 2nd response was that plug in USB cards won't work. Their solution, buy a new computer. Sorry but its very frustrating to then find out that its just an extenstions conflict.

This is a continuning post on the Microtech and Minolta SCSI reader for the Mac with OS 9 and OS X!
You need to update your driver with DOS Mounter Updater 3.0!

This will solve your Mac problems!!!!!!!
