Quantum Q Flash

I have been checking out Q flash's. Does anybody know the difference between 5dr and 4d? Also the T2. I have found some used ones and don't know what's what. Quantum sent me an email about the Trio too. I have a Nikon D300 and D200 for cameras. I was thinking about a SB-900 but for a little more money I could get more power full flash to bounce off those high ceilings. Will Crock says this is the best fill flash out there. More control. Just trying to find out from some one who has used this system.

Re: Quantum Q Flash

The Quantum's are great units, but I'd go with SB-900 unless you have some very serious flash power needs. I haven't used my commercial lighting system at all since I moved to the multi SB units. I carry an SB-900, SB-800, and SU-800 controller, along with two light stands and some umbrellas, and that's all I need for 99.9% of my lighting needs.

Well I took your advice and bought a Nikon SB-900 from Amazon.com. I'm waiting to get it in the mail. I plan on using it either as a commander or with Pocket Wizards. I'm wanting to know how it will work with the New Pocket Wizards when they come out For Nikon Flashes. But that won't be until April or later.

Re: Quantum Q Flash

You use the pop up flash on the D300 and D200's as commanders for the SB-900 and SB-800 flashes. The only time I have issues with using the SU-800 controller is when the flash is on the other side of a door, or somewhere it's clearly in shadow from the controller. I've only used the pop flash on my D200 a few times, but it seemed to work pretty well.

So do you recommend using the SU-800 instead of the pop up flash or a SB-800 or SB-900 to control the flashes? I like my Pocket Wizards because I know they fire. I have one SB-600, two SB-800s and a SB-900. I also have two Vivitar 285hv one new one and one real old one like 1986 version. It looks as new as the new one because I have not used that much and I have four Pocket wizards. I have three Elinchrom Skyports for a backup system.
