Lighting courses

I know we have a few Canadians here on the forum, so I'm wondering if anyone knows any lighting courses worth recommending in the Toronto area?

Thx

Jeff

Re: Lighting courses

there is a book by christopher grey called 'studio lighting' that is a very good book. It shows just about all the lighting scenarios one would use for studio portraiture.
What helped me the most was a week-long PPA school where I got to see, setup and understand lighting as part of a class on HS seniors- just one or two setups was all that was taught, but I found it tremendously useful to so that I could now 'see' what the light was doing. I still have a lot to learn, but it got me out of the dark, so to speak.

Perhaps you could find/attend a PPA class or other workshop/seminar. Perhaps there is a photog local to you that would be willing to teach /show you what you need to know.

The 'big' touring seminars probably won't help much. And most any teacher will teach what they use, as opposed to teaching 'everything'. Getting the basics, learning how to 'see' what the light is doing is where we all start, and then progress toward what works for you.

Re: Lighting courses

Hi,

One Toronto member that I see on another forum that is quite good and who does provide lighting instruction has information located here:

Photographic Instruction

Workshops

Also, I highly encourage you to get Dean Collins DVD on lighting:

The Best of Dean Collins on Lighting

If you Google Dean Collins DVD, you'll find rave reviews of his DVDs.

Hope this helps.
