Mark,

I know what you mean. I use these in school pictures setups (the rheostat) and would kill for a digital head but am not willing to reinvest the $$$ for nine setups.

Re: Calumet & Elinchrom

Well you guys are real help for me thanks. I'll take a look at the Tamerac case. The other case I was thinking of was a Tenba. What soft boxes do you like? I have some 20 year old Photoflex Multidomes but they are falling apart. I need to get something else. Have you tried a beauty dish? My back round stand is falling apart now so I need one of those too. What would recommend for that?

James,

I use umbrella's with my kit so I cannot comment on Softboxes. I've used a Wescott and love it.

Re: Calumet & Elinchrom

Do you like the Wescott umbrellas better than the Calumet umbrellas? I have two Wescott umbrellas also and I really can't tell the differance but I haven't really tested or shot them back to back to really find out. What do you guys use to white balance with? I have tryed the Color Right sold here and the Easy Balance sold at SmartShooter.com. Will Crocket says the Easy Balance is the only way to go. I have had good results both ways. I want to get one of those targets that has black, white, and grey on it.
I see that you (Jason) are around 45 miles from me. It's really nice writing to you people and sharing things and ideas.

Re: Calumet & Elinchrom

James,

I do like the Wescott over the calumets but when it comes down to $$$ the umbrella works fine. The wescott wraps light better then an umbrella but the cost is it's downfall. As for white balance, we shoot everything in RAW and shoot a gray card as a reference and either custom wb in the field or click balance when we convert from RAW to jpeg. The results have been outstanding. When the gray card fails, I visually adjust for color temp when I convert the files.

I have the same sentiment about sharing ideas. Chances are the we have crossed paths on bids or other types of work. In the end its about being professional.

Re: Calumet & Elinchrom

What light meter are you using? My old Gossen Ultra Spot and Sekonic are not repeating readings. So I have been looking at the new Sekonic 758D. I like it allot but also looking at a Sekonic 358 flash meter. The other meter I'm looking is a Gossen Digi F that's highly rated. The meters I own can not be calibrated by me. I want one that I can calibrate. I did have old Minolta flash III meter and did not like it. I have my best luck with Sekonic meters.

Re: Calumet & Elinchrom

I use a Minolta Flash Meter IV. Its affordable and reliable. Last time I used a Sekonic meter was way back in college. They were nice but the Minolta meter was too much of a deal to pass on.
