Re: Umbrella recommendation Needed

Micheal, I think it's Photogenic, not PHototek.
They don't mention internal ribs, but do mention not getting metal frame in eyes, because of a white satin panel added.
Curious, I've been shooting white umbrellas from years without a black backing. Am I losing light (f/stop etc) by not having a black backing?? I shoot into the umbrella.
Curious, what your test show you difference between shotting into or through an umbrella.

Re: Umbrella recommendation Needed

i checked that out a long long time ago, as a highschooler, two ways to think about it, the black backing absorbs light or it reduced stray light, maybe a silver reflector behind the white is what the world needs. i think i recall only 1/2 stop loss using the umbrella to bouce without the backing. and shooting through a white umb w/o backing maybe adds no more than 1/2 stop of light than using it to bounce normally/with backing.

Re: Umbrella recommendation Needed

I got 60" white eclipse. It's great. thanks for the recommendation.
Only thing though is if you take the black backing off and then collapse the umbrella, all the fasteners fall off the pins. In short, you really need to put the black backing on and off each time.

Does someone make a great quality umbrella, ie, the same type high end fabric without the black backing? (photogenics only offers their high end material umbrellas with black)
