Moody PocketWizard Receiver?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and/or has a solution to recommend.

I just noticed that one of my PW receivers is firing inconsistently when I fire the transmitter from another room. These don't require line of sight and I have fired them from ridiculous distances and locations before, so I'm a bit concerned. I'm talking about the PW being in one room and me going down the hall and it not firing from less than 20 feet away! One of my other PWs fired perfectly and consistently even if I go two or three rooms away with all doors closed, etc, but that one receiver just seems a bit moody.

I've changed the batteries in it. No difference in behavior.

It's never concerned me before because I generally shoot near my lights, but I will soon be using them for sporting events, where I could easily be a couple hundred feet away from them. So I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: Moody PocketWizard Receiver?

If you'll browse the PW user forum, you'll find two things that recur as suggestions-
be sure that the antennae are in the same orientation (parallel to each other) and that no metal is in between acting as an interfering antenna. I had been using one at weddings and had it dangling below the light alongside the metal light stand and had fairly frequent failures. Since I mounted on top of the light (knock on wood) I haven't had any failures.

The way I was storing my PWs, I had weight on the antennae and inadvertently detached the antenna on the transmitter from the circuit board inside. This was definitely a problem until it was fixed. It was obvious the antenna was very loose and moved up and down more than the others. This might be a problem.
