Attaching Elinchrom 600s to EOS 30D

I was calling around today looking for a PC sync cable for an Elinchrom flash unit (600s). A local reseller told me that if I was to use the PC Sync port to attach anything larger than a standard hotshoe type flash to the 30d that a) I would immediately invalidate the warranty and that b) could expect to blow the shutter and/or electronics in very short order.

Any truth to this or any thoughts on this issue? Why put a sync port on the camera if you can't use it?

Sure a set of Pocket Wizards would be great, but a cable should be supported, yes?

Any recommendations against a Hama cable? I'm looking for a 25' or so cable and they have one that has a mini connector on the Elinchrom end to a PC connector on the camera end.

Thanks.

Barry

From a quick look at the Elinchrom site it looks like their current units work on a 5 volt trigger. That's safe for the Canon cameras. Check the specific one you're interested in at http://www.elinchrom.com/

I've tried the Hama cable and it worked fine. The (potential) problems were the same as always; standard pc connectors come loose at precisely the wrong moment and people trip over cables with a frequency directly proportional to both the cost of the equipment connected to them and their ability to sue for damages.
