Bowen Pulsars?

Does anyone have any opinions about the Bowen pulsar radio remotes? I like the fact that they are a similar price to the pocket wizard pluses but can be set to both receiver and transmiter like the multimaxes. They seem to have four channels, which is fine for what I need (basic setup) but the literature doesn't talk of any coded channels like the pocket wizzards do, is that someting to be concerned with? Any feedback would be helpfull, it's the same old dilema, I want to keep expenditures low but don't want to make any serious mistakes and have to buy twice down the road. I have no experience with remotes. Thanks.

Re: Bowen Pulsars?

Hi,

Calumet sells thes are their own brand and they have had some problems with them and recomended Pocket Wizards. Personally I'm pretty happy with the basic Pocket Wizards. They are fool proof and reliable. I have also purchased an inexpensive radio slave and remote unit with 4 channels as a back up for $100 that works great but is limited to about 85 foot range, more than enough for most studios. Several well known flash makers are selling them relabeled for a lot more money but they are the same item with a different name on them.

Cheers/Chip

Re: Bowen Pulsars?

Pavel,

These Pulsars just don't work well. I had a set 6 months ago & had a lot of problems with them (so were others on this forum).
I was in contact with Bowens about it but the upgrades just didn't work. It seems that this wireless technologie is complicated and that it needs many years of experience to develop such a product.
I finally bought the Pocket Wizard and they work just great as it should be (I had not one missed flash since!).
Hope this helps & keeps you from all the hassle I went through.

All the best,

Eugene

Re: Bowen Pulsars?

Thanks ... probably just saved me several gray hairs and several greenbacks.
