D-Lux or Lumix?

I'm a studio portrait photographer who uses two Kodak DCS Pro SLR/n cameras for 'work'. My wife has a year-old Olympus compact digital camera which I loath, primarily because of shutter lag. (If Cartier-Bressons had used one, I doubt the 'decisive moment' would have ever come to light!)

I'd love to have a decent point-and-shoot digital compact for ease of use and simply when I'm not 'at work'. A (non-pro) photographer friend showed me his D-Lux 3, and also his son's Panasonic Lumix. The images on both looked pretty impressive, but I've no idea whether either (or any other Leica/Panasonic/other brand) is right for me. Budget-wise, I'm open-minded....

Any suggestions?

Steve

Re: D-Lux or Lumix?

We have several of the Panasonics in the family. Useful images, good wide angle and even 16:9 aspect ratio. They are definitely not up to DSLR standards, but the shutter lag is not awful like some.

Also look at the Canon G9, and sus out the upcoming Sigma DP1 with APS-C sensor. SIGMA DP1 It looks like it will be hot.

Mike,

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at the G9 and DP1.
