Nikon Scan wont Launch

I have the Supercool scan 4000.
In the past I used to use it via PS, but for many years have used it with stand alone software.

Suddenly the software is crashing.

(I'm on Snow Leopard/ new imac 27")

I reinstalled the software, no luck.

So I tried with CS5, no luck. Even though I have the Nikon plug in the correct import/export folder.
Also no luck with CS4 or CS3, but with CS2 (the oldest version I still have on the computer) wala! The software is there in import menu and comes up just fine.

Why is it not even appearing in the other version os CS import menu --CS 3,4, or 5 --( the plug in is correctly placed with all those versions)

and of course I would love to know why the stand alone is not working.
