Re: Vinyl Greenscreen Backdrops

Anyone know where I could find information on using a "green" or other screen with Photoshop? I curious about how to handle it in PS.

Re: Vinyl Greenscreen Backdrops

In PS, you don't need Chroma green or blue, it can be any color. simply use selection tool and vary tolerence. I think Rolland used to use white for family portraits to drop out the background and you simply check mark contiguous.

The same applies to Primatte.

Everyone uses green and sometimes blue because there is very little green in flesh tones so it drops out without having flesh problems. If I were just doping a few, white is actually a good choice.

In video production, the exact color is more critical.

Re: Vinyl Greenscreen Backdrops

There must be a way to drop out the background color, isolate the object of interest, (maybe with masks), then add it back in so the object of interest doesn't lose any of it's color.

I've been a big fan of Extract, but am still looking for better ways to do it.

Re: Vinyl Greenscreen Backdrops

Hi Ian,

Just saw your enquiry about greenscreen backgrounds - I'll get back to you in a few days with some suppliers.
However, Lastolite have a product called a HiLite. Its a double- sided backdrop , white, designed for high key photography, that can be lit with just one light. Subjects can be placed right longside it.
I enquired of them if it could be adapted for greenscreen, but they did'nt think so. But since then, I came across someone in America who is actually using it for greenscreen - he uses gels to change the colour.
Now , 3 meters is a different ask! But the Lastolite might suit you in some situations.
And I know I did find U.K.sources , which I'll find again for you.

Best wishes,

Noel Walsh.
