Re: best on site viewing software is 5minutephoto?

I have been developing some software that I can use at events, such as equestrian where the user can save a basket and return later and add more images. This is not and never will be commercial as I am doing it for myself. Have a look at http://www.ukphotoevent.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=22 if you are interested.

Re: best on site viewing software is 5minutephoto?

I used Photo Parata this weekend. What a dream, my tech challenged wife even like it. LOL She stated "if I can work it anyone can."

We uploaded files faster than the customer could get to the viewing station. I had two people ask me about doing a similar event!

Here is our set up all run off a DELL Insprion 1300 laptop, and 2 Dell Vostro 200 work stations.
Tech support is the best too.

Re: best on site viewing software is 5minutephoto?

Thanks a lot for posting your picts Chuck!

Would it have been the same if you would have shot 250 pictures in 20-40 minutes @ 3-5 megabytes each?

Would your server have sustained a 20 to 40 kiosks setup?

I just want to say that it is true that software is an important key in succeeding with onsite digital proofing, but there are LOTS of others components such as:
- Kiosk choices
- Kiosk software
- Server hardware
- Redundancy, backup setup...
- Memory card
- Reader type
- Kiosk (booth) physical arrangement and setup
- Displays, etc, etc....

If you plan to make really big event just don't forget to think about the above

Re: best on site viewing software is 5minutephoto?

The software has been changed so that language settings and page extension are done automatically. The customer order process has been simplified and admin pages amended to reflect this. This is not and never will be commercial as I am doing it for myself. Have a look at http://www.ukphotoevent.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=22 if you are interested. All comments appreciated.

Re: best on site viewing software is 5minutephoto?

Claude_Ferron asked:

"Would it have been the same if you would have shot 250 pictures in 20-40 minutes @ 3-5 megabytes each?"

I can answer that with a YES.

I shoot multiple events at one time that last anywhere form 30-40 minutes, with intermissions, you can synch and then add more photos and synch again.

Pictures are up fast for customers to purchase.

Again you can see my setup, I run 15-20 viewing stations.

Redundancy, I backup the root directory and have a second server that I do not run unless I have a meltdown on one.

If you are talking running a bullet proof sales presentation, you truely are not talking the Viewing software, as much as you are talking your workflow to assure if you have a technical glitch you can seemlessly change the problem and continue.

Glitches I have had (mostly due to Hard Knox):

Too many computers on one circuit,
Running out of Generator Gas

Running out of Generator Power

Showing up to an event with too few viewing stations (you can work around this with thumb-nail proofbook printouts from Photo Mechanic, but that is not as fun).

Not having a backup plan

PhotoParata is as much a part of my business process as my Canon Digital Cameras are, in some cases.

it can handle the large photo events with many photos per group.

I personally have had games with 300-500 photos, and some with very few, all mixed up.

No customer left unhappy.

My experience only.
