Re: Help with online proofs....

Try Instaproofs.

Free until there is a sale, then it's 15% (thats including any CC fees). They pay twice a month on shipped orders (you mark them as shipped, as well as ordered and can auto-email the client of the status).

FTP to upload, stupidly easy, and fast. Any FTP program will work, if you have directories on your machine they show up there as the same name - handy as all get out!
You can setup all kinds of pricing, products, shipping, tax or not, etc.

When an order is placed you get an email (like an invoice). Handy trail.
You then click the email to bring up the order online,, click a link to bring up the file list in a box. Copy the contents to window's exlporer Search box and up come the files ordered. Simple, fast and efficient.

Re: Help with online proofs....

Chris thanks for your reply. So from what I read from your service is that they do everything? Print, collect monies and ship?

Also from the other replies Thanks guys keep it coming I will look at what you have to offer. As for Photorelect, I do not like them so thats why I am looking at other ideas of posting my work.

thanks..

ps. if I'm slow to respond back, I have found the flu and it has found whats left of my energy. I'll be checking on and off the next day or so...

Re: Help with online proofs....

Billy, you said
" 1. I would like for the customers to go to the site pick the pictures and the order forwarded to me to fill."
Does this mean that you want to fulfill (print) or you want someone to print for you?

With something like BB or Photocart, you'll pay about 5% for Paypal fees and then you print yourself.

Re: Help with online proofs....

instaproofs shows, sells, collects the money, and YOU fulfill the order.

Some like this, some do not. I want to fulfill my own orders - I can inspect the order and add stuff to the envelope - my business card, a brochure, etc. If the client calls with a problem (very rare) I know what went out. And I use the same lab I use for everything else - loyalty, products, quality - all have value. And my lab is cheaper than average, so I'm not taking a cost hit.
It did take some effort to get my internal infrastructure in place, but much of it I needed anyway and now that I have it, I can do other mailings more easily (things like envelopes, labeling, postage machine, etc).

The time it takes to deal with the order - start to finish - is minimal. Even for a one person show it's certainly doable. My wedding assistant helps when I need it on some of this stuff, as well as framing. I'm teaching him to so some retouching as well. A backup for those busy times is handy.

There is the theory that the only thing you as owner should do is market, shoot and manage. Outsource the rest. I like the theory, but the reality isn't always as nice. You pay either way. You have to manage both. And low volume is expensive either way.

Photostore is very good. Just upload the script to your site (they will even do this for you) all photos can be loaded via ftp, you have an admin control panel to set what products you sell, your prices, categories etc. You receive the order by email and it is saved in the admin side of the software. Various skins available for various looks. There is a demo on the site or you can look in my gallery to see it in action.

Re: Help with online proofs....

Another solution is SimplePhoto. I've been using them for the past four years and have been pleased. They offer an extensive set of services or you can print your own. They work with many out-of-the-box software solutions so you might already be half way there. Good luck in your search.

Re: Help with online proofs....

I posted a bit earley on this post but havent checked back untill now. I use Digi Proofs and they can set you up self fulfillment or you fulfill your self. You will pay more to do it your self with upload fees but they do not take % of sales. I try to stay away from sites that take % of sale fees. If you plain on grossing more than $500 per event you are better off with a set price than using a % of sales where the % is larger than 10%. I always thought it strange if one photogerpher charged $12 for a 8x10 and another charged $65 for a 8x10 the e site is making more off of one that the other with the work load for them of no difference.....B
